U.S. ARMY SOLDIERS IN SOUTH KOREA DUKE IT OUT

IN BUDWEISER BOXING TOURNAMENT

DONGDOOCHUN-CITY, SOUTH KOREA -  Budweiser landed a knockout punch with U.S. Army soldiers during the recently held Budweiser Eighth United States Army Boxing Championship.  The “King of Beers” sponsored the event, where the best of the best Army boxers stationed in South Korea competed in the ring for the honor of being crowned boxing champion of their weight class.

"Budweiser Boxing is just one of the many sports events Anheuser-Busch is proud to host each year for the U.S. military,” said Dan Guandolo, director of International Military Sales, Anheuser-Busch International, Inc.  “Through this event and others, Budweiser is delighted to carry on its long history of support to the courageous men and women in the armed forces, especially those serving in the Demilitarized Zone.”

The boxing program, which consisted of seven boxing match events throughout the year, culminated with the championship at Camp Casey before a crowd of more than 800.

Winners of the men’s three-round matches were:  Private First Class Steven Moore(Lightweight); Specialist Moses Hickman (Welterweight); Private First Class Maurice Danzey (Middleweight); Specialist Devin Story (Heavyweight); Specialist David Jones (Heavyweight); Specialist Charles Addison (Super Heavyweight); Specialist Lomarr Webb (Light Middleweight); and Javier Avia (Heavyweight).  Winners of the women’s matches were Private First Class Jeannie Tauala (Middleweight), and Private Second Sergeant Iris Ayze (Light Welterweight).

In addition to winning trophies, participants of the tournament also won Budweiser hats and sweatshirts.

Guandolo, Ron Reisman of All American Beverages and Colonel Rob Madden presented awards to each champion.

“We are elated that Anheuser-Busch has continued its tradition of sponsoring this important boxing promotion, which helps to support the morale, welfare and recreation of our American service men and women in South Korea,” said Madden, coordinator of Morale, Welfare and Recreation Operations.

This year marks the eighth consecutive year of Budweiser’s exclusive sponsorship of the boxing tournament.  Anheuser-Busch is a leader in sports marketing, and has proven its longtime commitment to providing entertainment for the U.S. military.  In addition to boxing, Budweiser has hosted various other sports promotions for military personnel, including trips to the Irish Derby, NASCAR and Hydroplane races, the Olympics, the Super Bowl and other major sports events.

“Our partnership with the U.S. military made it possible for Anheuser-Busch to expand this year’s televised broadcast of the tournament to military bases in the Pacific, so that more military personnel could enjoy the boxing action,” said Guandolo.
